MOSCOW, July 26 (RAPSI) – The Moscow police have reported that among boxes containing upwards of 120 kilos of cocaine, each one contained sheets of paper with special prayers for protection.
The cocaine shipment was distributed between six boxes and found in a truck that was transporting a load of bananas from Ecuador.
The authorities have not released an official statement as to what the specific writing was, but a source in the police later shed light on the nature of the message.
"The prayers mention the prophet Jonah and a voyage across the sea, air and earth," the source said. According to religious scripture, Jonah was swallowed by a whale, but after praying to God, he was cast out onto dry land.
The story is found in the Hebrew Bible as well as the Quran.
The driver of the truck carrying the boxes was detained, and the police are presently trying to determine whether he knew about the cocaine.
