MOSCOW, May 14 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Avant-garde exhibition will be held in the Perm art gallery as part of the Diaghilev Seasons from May 17 to June 17, reports the web site russianculture.ru.

The exposition features the private collection of Edik Natanov (Germany) and works from the Perm Gallery.

Natanov's collection was partially shown in Perm in 2003. The current exhibition is wider and fuller.

Works by Kasimir Malevich, the founding father of suprematism, Lazar Lisitsky, the author of three-dimension suprematic compositions, Lev Bakst, a brilliant theater artist and Serge Diaghilev's companion, and cubist theater artist Alexandra Ekster are presented at the exhibition.

Paintings and graphic works by prominent masters of the "left-wing" art Lyubov Popova, Varvara Stepanova and Georgy Yakulov from the collection of the Perm gallery are shown, as well.

The term "Russian avant-garde" means radical innovative trends which emerged in the Russian art in 1907-1914.

The theory and practice of suprematism are based on universal (suprematic) elements, precise art formulas and compositions. An ideal construction of regular geometric figures is a sample of suprematism.

Diaghilev festivals dedicated to prominent Russian impresario of the 20th century Serge Diaghilev have been held in Perm since 1987. Diaghilev spent his childhood in Perm. The city has the unique house-museum of the legendary impresario. Festivals traditionally include the Diaghilev Readings art symposium, exhibitions and the international musical and theatrical forum (since 2003).
