Anapa festival to bring together filmmakers from across former Soviet Union

16:14 14/07/2005
Moscow, July 14 (RIA Novosti) - A festival in the Russian coastal town of Anapa will bring together film professionals from across the former USSR, the Rossiiskaya Gazeta daily newspaper reported.

Filmmakers from the fifteen ex-Soviet republics will present their latest productions at the 14th Kinoshok Festival, to run from September 11 through 22.

Organizers said they would like their forum to send a clear message that the borders that now divide those countries do not divide the film community.

Most of the motion pictures to be featured at the festival are traditional and reflect the distinctive culture of the country where they come from.

The Russian ballet dancer and choreographer Vladimir Vasilyev will be presiding over the festival jury this year. By tradition, Kinoshok jury chairs belong to the artistic community, but are not filmmakers.

The Russian entries at this year's festival will include Pyotr Khazizov's "Manga," Yevgeni Yufit's "Walking Upright" and Murat Ibragimbekov's "My Escape Plot."
