Russian band takes part in Japanese rock festival
Nochnye Snaipery (Night Snipers) is one of 100 rock bands that will perform at 12 concert grounds on the western coast of Honshu. The band will give a 50-minute concert on July 29.
"We feel a great responsibility as we are the first to represent Russia at such an important event," Nochnye Snaipery leader Diana Arbenina said. She also said a CD that the band recorded specifically for Japan would be released on August 29.
Bass guitarist Fyodor Vasilyev said the band hoped to gain popularity in Japan.
Nochnye Snaipery visited Japan once before during the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Japanese official diplomatic relations in Shimoda. The band appeared before the Japanese prime minister and heads of the Russian embassy in Tokyo and sang several songs.
The band's popularity in Japan is growing. Many Japanese have chosen Nochnye Snaipery's hit "Koshka" (A Cat) for their ringtones.
RIA Novosti is the official information sponsor of the rock band.
