L'AQUILA, July 9 (RIA Novosti) - Hollywood star George Clooney flew into G8 host city L'Aquilla on Thursday by helicopter to take part in a cinema opening ceremony in the quake-stricken Italian province.

Clooney, accompanied by Nobel Peace Prize winner Betty Williams and Jose Manuel Barroso, the European Commission chairman, will open the "Nobel for Peace" cinema at a campsite for people displaced during April's quake later this evening, the visit organizers told RIA Novosti.

The campsite is in the village of San Demetrio, just 3 km away from L'Aquila.

The venue for the three-day G8 summit, bringing together 30 countries, was moved from Sardinia's La Maddalena to L'Aquila in an effort by Italian authorities to draw attention to the problems of the devastated region.
