Over 10 million people have already visited the world exposition, Expo 2010,which opened in Shanghai on May 1. The Russian pavilion is among the three most popular expositions, alongside those of China and the United States. The Russian pavilion received over 1 million visitors in June. Visitors say that the Russian pavilion inspired a childlike sense of wonder and surprise in them.
The Russian pavilion has an area of 6,000 square meters and is shaped like a sun with white and gold towers representing twelve rays of light; these towers also symbolize both the twelve months of a year and the hours on a clock face. Each tower represents a period in the history of Russian architecture and is decorated with ornaments of Russia’s ethnic groups.
