TBILISI, June 2 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia's opposition will halt its long-term demonstrations until June 9 when protests are planned to be held outside the Interior Ministry building in the capital of Tbilisi, an opposition member said on Tuesday.
The opposition has been holding round-the-clock protests for around two months demanding President Mikheil Saakashvili step down over his failure to carry out democratic reforms and last August's war with Russia.
"On this day [June 9] it will be two months since the start of protests, and on this day we will protest against the Interior Ministry's policies," Lasha Chkhartishvili of Georgia's Conservative Party said.
Tbilisi's authorities said on Monday they planned to "clean and disinfect" central Freedom Square following the opposition rallies, which started in early April.
Chkhartishvili said "over 100 people have been injured during the opposition actions and there is still no reaction."
He also said protesters planned to stage demonstrations on Thursday in support of an independent Maestro TV channel, which was hit by an explosion on May 25. No one was injured in the blast.
