MOSCOW, July 29 (RIA Novosti) - Moldova's ruling communist party received 41.7% of votes at Wednesday's parliamentary election, according to an exit poll by the country's Public Policy Institute.
According to the results of the poll, the Communist Party will receive 45 seats in the 101-seat parliament, well below the threshold of 61 that would allow it to elect a president.
The party won parliamentary polls in April, but failed to gain a sufficient majority to elect a president. Lawmakers twice failed to vote in a new leader, causing the chamber to be dissolved, and leading to new election.
The Central Electoral Committee said turnout was just under 49%.
