KIEV, August 14 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine will not allow anyone to interfere in its domestic affairs and will make its own policies and build its future itself, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko warned on Friday.
Her warning came after Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko had criticized a recent letter from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Medvedev's message blamed Kiev for the deterioration of relations between the two former Soviet republics, strained in recent years by gas disputes, Ukraine's desire to join NATO, and interpretations of the Soviet-era famine in Ukraine.
"We are always ready to hear and listen to the opinion of our partners in the East and in the West, and take their interests into account, but interference in our internal affairs is inadmissible," the Ukrainian premier said in a statement.
However, she said a break in cooperation between Russia and Ukraine was equally "inadmissible."
"I have always built and will build relations with Russia as an equal, taking into account national interests, mutual advantage, and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity," Tymoshenko said.
The Ukrainian prime minister also said that "Ukraine will choose its foreign and domestic policy itself."
Philip Crowley, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of State, reiterated on Wednesday the U.S.'s support for Ukraine's right as a sovereign state to pursue its interests "in any way that it chooses."
