SOCHI, August 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will pay a visit to Turkmenistan in mid-September to meet with his counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a Kremlin aide said.
"The president of Turkmenistan confirmed the invitation he gave at the beginning of July to Dmitry Medvedev to visit Turkmenistan on a working visit, and to attend in the final events of Kazan-Ashgabat Rally," Sergei Prikhodko told reporters.
"The Russian president accepted the invitation, and is preparing for the visit, during which he will hold a bilateral meeting with Turkmenistan's president," the aide said.
Russian KamAZ trucks compete in the 4,500-km race from the Russian Volga city of Kazan through Kazakhstan to the Turkmen capital on September 5-13.
The truck race was first promoted by President Berdimuhamedov, and supported by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
During their talks, the Turkmen and Russian leaders are also expected to discuss natural gas cooperation.
