Kyrgyzstan withdraws Boeing planes over engine failures

BISHKEK, October 12 (RIA Novosti) - Kyrgyzstan has suspended the operations of Boeing passenger planes by national airlines due to a series of recent engine failures, the country's Civil Aviation Department said on Monday.

"The suspension order will be in effect until the causes of the engine failures are found," the department said.

A Boeing-737-200 operated by a Kyrgyz company had to return to Bishkek soon after take-off on a flight to Islamabad, due to the failure of an engine. The airliner was carrying 43 passengers and six pilots.

The incident was the third such failure involving Boeing airliners in the past four months. In August, a Boeing jet operated by a Kyrgyz company made a forced landing in Kazakhstan after a fuel leak from the left engine. A similar incident occurred in Dubai in July.
