Ukraine's gross domestic product declined 15%, year-on-year, in 2009 as the ex-Soviet republic struggled with the effects of the global economic crisis, the country's top statistics body said on Sunday.

Ukraine's GDP equaled 912.6 billion hryvna ($114 billion) in nominal terms last year, the statistics committee said.

In 2008, Ukraine's GDP grew 2.1%. The Ukrainian authorities expect the national economy to grow 3.7% in 2010 while international financial institutions give a more modest GDP growth forecast of 2.5-3% this year.

Ukraine's new president, Viktor Yanukovych, signed on Friday a raft of decrees on economic reform and the fight against corruption and poverty.

Yanukovych said his aim was to build a strong economy in the ex-Soviet republic crippled by continuous political infighting during the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko.
