A round-the-clock curfew has been imposed in south Kyrgyzstan following ethnic riots that swept the region in the last few days, AKIpress news agency reported on Sunday.
Deadly ethnic riots in the country's second-largest city of Osh and another southern city of Jalalabad on Friday and Saturday claimed at least 80 lives and left over 1,000 injured.
The round-the-clock curfew will be in effect in Osh and the adjacent Kara-Suu and Aravan districts, AKIpress reported, referring to the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry.
Kyrgyz media reported earlier on Sunday that local authorities in southern Kyrgyzstan have taken the situation "under relative control" following ethnic riots.
Kyrgyz and ethnic Uzbek groups set ablaze cars, crushed the stores and markets as well as the residential houses. The looters have been rampaging through the streets during the days of rioting.
Kyrgyz interim government passed a decree on Saturday declaring a partial mobilization of the civilian reservists and allowed police and the troops to shoot to kill in order to quench the riots and stop marauders.
