Ukraine's embattled opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko appealed to prosecutors on Tuesday to drop charges against her.

Tymoshenko, who lost her premiership in a no-confidence vote in March, is suspected of illegally diverting $425 million meant for environmental projects into pension funds.

"By law, they have three days to reply and I hope that the investigators, who understand all too well the absurdity of the charges, will close the criminal case," Tymoshenko told reporters.

The former prime minister claims she is being targeted for standing up to President Viktor Yanukovych, who narrowly defeated her in last February's presidential election.
