Theme ‘8th International Aviation & Space Salon MAKS 2007' The value of contracts signed at the MAKS-2007 international air show outside Moscow has exceeded $3 billion, the organizers said Sunday, citing preliminary results. MAKS-2007 is an aviation exhibition held every two years in the town of Zhukovsky, which hosts a military airbase. The air show has gathered over 540 Russian companies and 247 foreign firms from 39 countries this year, the organizers said. At this year's air show Russia has presented a multi-role advanced Su-35 Flanker-E fighter, multi-role MiG-35D fighter, upgraded multi-role carrier-based MiG-29K Fulcrum fighter, enhanced versions of the Pantsyr S1 short-range air defense system, Meteorite-A cruise missile and the lightweight ‘Smerch' multiple-launch rocket system vehicle.

Multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRSs) stand out among the weapons and military equipment produced by the Russian defense industry.

The 300mm Smerch, which is sometimes called an heir to the Katyusha, is the most powerful of them all, and this is not some journalistic exaggeration.
