Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC) intends to participate in the development of software for construction of Mistral-class helicopter carriers if Russia decides to purchase them, the company's vice president said on Monday.
Russia is negotiating the purchase of at least one French-built Mistral-class ship and plans to build three more vessels of the same class in partnership with the French naval shipbuilder DCNS.
PTC's Paul Grenet said that if Russia decided to purchase Mistral-class ships for the Russian Navy, the corporation would ensure the compatibility of all vital systems with Russian standards.
"The same warship for a national navy or for export has certain differences due to secrecy and national security," he said. "PTC specializes in the development of export options that are compatible with the standards of a customer."
Grenet said that PTC had worked with French shipbuilder DCNS for 20 years and had contracts for similar work under French deals to sell submarines and frigates to Brazil and Morocco.
He added that more detailed talks on the Mistral may be held with Russian side in October during the Euronaval 2010 event.
A Mistral-class ship is capable of transporting and deploying 16 helicopters, four landing barges, up to 70 armored vehicles including 13 battle tanks, and 450 personnel.
The Russian military has said it plans to use Mistral ships in its Northern and Pacific fleets.
PTC provides different manufacturers with software and services to meet the globalization, time-to-market and operational efficiency objectives of product development.
