Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Public Health, Laurette Onkelinx, of the Francophone Socialist Party, has predicted that Belgium is about to split.

Observers also say that amid another escalation of the political crisis in Belgium the possibility of holding new early parliamentary elections cannot be ruled out. The decision to call general elections in June 2010 was taken after the fall of the previous government. While the new government is currently being formed, the members of the previous government continue to perform their duties.

After the 2007 parliamentary election, Belgium lived without a new government for almost nine months. The federal government of the country has been led by the politicians representing the Dutch-language majority.
