MEXICO CITY, September 3 (RIA Novosti) - Hurricane Jimena has destroyed several dozen houses in Mexico's Mulege and Comondu municipalities, the country's civil defense service reported Thursday.
No deaths have been reported to be caused by the hurricane that hit the western Mexican state of Baja California Sur on Wednesday. Over 6,000 people have been evacuated to special shelters.
Jimena has weakened from the most dangerous Category 5 to Category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale and is slowly moving along the western coast of the Baja California peninsula northward.
Jimena is the 10th tropical cyclone registered in the Pacific in this hurricane season. The cyclone formed on August 29 and rapidly intensified into a hurricane.
