NEW DELHI, October 2 (RIA Novosti) - At least 138 people have been killed in three Indian states as a result of heavy rains and flash floods, the IANS news agency said on Friday.
Three days of incessant torrential rain in the southern state of Karnataka took the lives of 104 people, flooded hundreds of villages, destroyed some 20,000 houses, and ruined crops and roads.
Another 26 people died in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, where a group of 500 pilgrims have been trapped without food on the roofs of a temple since Thursday.
Eight people were also killed in a landslide caused by torrential rains in the western state of Maharashtra.
The bad weather has been hampering rescue operations, which involve helicopters and military units.
