JAKARTA, October 16 (RIA Novosti) - A strong earthquake struck off Indonesia's Java island on Friday afternoon, causing skyscrapers in Jakarta to shake, but no casualties have been reported.
The country's meteorological authorities said the epicenter of the 6.4-magnitude quake was 42 kilometers northwest of the Ujung Kulon national reserve, located in the westernmost part of Java.
No destruction has been reported and no tsunami warning has been issued.
Indonesia is located in the area of intense seismic activity, called the Pacific Ring of Fire. A series of powerful quakes hit the country recently, killing over a thousand people and ruining hundreds of buildings.
