At least three people were killed and six injured on Monday as three earthquakes hit southern Guatemala within 90 minutes, local media reported.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, an initial 4.8-magnitude quake was followed by a second quake of 5.8 magnitude, and later another 4.8-magnitude tremor. Their epicenters were approximately 52 kilometers (33 miles) from the capital, Guatemala City.
"At this point we have information about three people dead and six injured. Several people are believed to be stranded under rubble," William de Leon, spokesman for local rescue services, told reporters.
Hundreds of people were evacuated from shaking buildings in Guatemala City, while landslides caused by the tremors blocked several roads connecting Guatemala with El Salvador.
