BESLAN, NORTH OSSETIA, September 1 (RIA Novosti) - Leonid Roshal, renowned children's doctor, has come to Beslan to join negotiators for the release of children taken hostage as terrorists seized town School No. 1. The selfless physician is presently at the operation HQ, reports Valeri Andreyev, North Osset board chief of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

Talks with the terrorists are going on, he said to the media. Mr. Andreyev did not specify the negotiators. He cannot say whether any more news has come from inside the school. The security officer does not know whether any more people have been wounded or killed.

Leonid Roshal appeared in the tragic limelight when he volunteered to negotiate in the Dubrovka Theatre plight in Moscow as terrorists took a full house hostage during a sensational musical in autumn 2002. At the risk of his own life, he was attending to the sick and interceded for the captives.
