60TH ANNIVERSARY OF YALTA MEETING OF STALIN, ROOSEVELT, CHURCHILL
According to the spokesperson of the Crimean Council of Ministers, the exhibitions titled Diplomacy of the Great Victory, and Crimean (Yalta) Conference of 1945 and United Nations Organization Establishment will be held within the framework of the anniversary celebrations.
Friday is to witness the inauguration of a bust of Franklin D. Roosevelt on the street named after him in Yalta.
Previously, Zurab Tsereteli's monument to the three heads of state, who participated in the Yalta Conference of 1945 - Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt, was expected to be erected in Livadia in February. According to the sculptor's spokesperson, he has not completed his monument yet.
Public organizations of the Crimean Tartars, who were deported from Crimea during WWII, protested against erecting the monument to Stalin.
The round table discussion International Institutes and Regional and Global Security in the 21st Century is slated for Sunday, as is the symposium closing ceremony.
Over 200 scientists, politicians, officials and public activists of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and other countries of the former Soviet Union are expected to take part in the anniversary celebrations.
During the conference in Yalta on February 4-11, 1945, the Soviet, British and U.S. leaders worked out military plans and outlined the fundamentals of the post-WWII world order and international security arrangements. Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill stated their goals, in particular, elimination of German militarism and Nazism, exacting reparations from Germany and establishing the United Nations Organization.
