MIKHAIL PLETNEV RECEIVES GRAMMY AWARD
This was announced at the 47th annual Grammy awards ceremony in Los Angeles (California) on Sunday night.
Mr. Pletnev received a Gramophone Award in 1996.
His performances in different countries were recorded by the leading TV and radio companies. Music Magazine "Gramophone" called Mikhail Pletnev's album of Scarlatti compositions (EMI - Virgin Classics, 1996) "piano playing at its greatest ... this performance alone would be enough to secure Pletnev a place among the greatest pianists ever known." His recordings of Tchaikovsky's compositions, including piano versions of the suites from the ballets The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty were included in the Philips Classics Anthology "Great Pianists of the 20th Century." Mikhail Pletnev recorded the CD Homage to Rachmaninov in 1998 in the composer's house. He played Rachmaninov's piano. This event is featured in the documentary "Sergei Rachmaninov - Memories" (NVC Arts). Since 1993 Mr. Pletnev has been successfully cooperating with the Deutsche Grammophon company.
