TALLINN, April 12 (RIA Novosti) - Leading politicians of a new government coalition condemned last week's arrest of head of the Estonian-Russian transit company AS Spacecom Oleg Ossinovsky, on suspicion of unfair rivalry.

The newspaper Postimees said Tuesday that the leader of the Centrist Party, Edgar Savisaar, and the head of the parliament's legal commission, reformist Vajno Linde, said that Ossinosky was illegally arrested.

"When we come to power, we will investigate the materials of this incident in detail," Savisaar said.

"I believe that the assertions of the KAPO (Estonian police) that the arrest of the businessman was necessary for conducting investigations, are rather strange. Under the constitution, a person can be detained for 48 hours only if he could escape from the investigation or commit a new crime. However, the police and the prosecutor's office use the powers, granted them by the law, in order to make their work easier," Linde said.

Ossinovsky was detained by the KAPO for 48 hours in Tallinn's airport last Wednesday, immediately after his arrival from Moscow. The prosecutor's office said Ossinosky is suspected of the cartel collusion on tariffs for the use of Eesti Raudtee infrastructure.

A criminal case was opened on February 2. Ossinovsky was freed Friday.

Spacecom is part of the Russian concern Severstaltrans and handles railroad transportation.

In 2004, Spacecom was the first firm to win the right to use the infrastructure of Eesti Raudtee.
