This year's Nobel Prize for Medicine was given to three scientists, including Jack Szostak, a genetics professor at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, "for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase," a process first postulated by Russian scientist Alexei Olovnikov in 1971.
