CSKA had their first shot on target in the fifth minute, when Milos Krasic (in red) struck from the penalty area. Manchester United goalie Edwin van der Sar made an impressive save, and the ball went high over the bar.
In 15 minutes, Manchester United adapted to the stadium’s artificial grass and began attacking the CSKA goal, forcing the Russian players to make mistakes. Paul Scholes tried a shot from a distance, which bounced in front of goalie Igor Akinfeyev. In turn, CSKA’s Krasic tried a shot at the Manchester United goal but missed. The next dangerous moment for Manchester United was when Alan Dzagoyev shot from a distance but did not manage to score a goal because of Sergei Ignashevich’s mistake and the ball went near the bar. Manchester United arranged several attacks, one of which ended with Valencia’s strike at the bar. Sir Alex Ferguson, the Manchester United coach, said that he was impressed by CSKA midfielder Milos Krasic and goalie Igor Akinfeyev. “Krasic, without question, created a bit of concern.
