Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has personally test driven a new model of the Hyundai Solaris, developed specially for Russia.
At the opening ceremony of a Hyundai Motor plant in St. Petersburg, Putin and the head of the South Korean company drove a car produced at the plant.
The car is equipped with an automatic gearbox. The head of the Hyundai Motor company sat in the passenger seat.
Putin nimbly started up the car, drove once around the plant and returned to the guests at the ceremony.
The Russian premier and the Hyundai Motor head signed the car with a white highlighter.
The Solaris model has been specially developed for Russian drivers. In early summer, Hyundai held a national contest to choose the best name for the Russian car. More than 27,000 people voted for the Solaris (which means ‘of the sun’ in Latin). In August, this car was exhibited in Moscow. Production of four-door sedans will begin in January, and production of hatchbacks in May.
