“I am very much glad that I am the first presidential candidate to vote in the center of our country,” Prokhorov said after the vote. “I choose the new Russia. Everything is just beginning.”
The veteran Communist Party leader, Gennady Zyuganov, said as he was casting his ballot that he was voting for a "educated, healthy, intelligent and prosperous" Russia.
He also said a higher turnout at the elections would ensure stricter control over the results, which would increase the probability of a second round vote.
Zhirinovsky wished all voters to be in a good temper on Monday.
