SEMINAR IN HELSINKI: "THE SECOND WORLD WAR. THE SOVIET-FINNISH ASPECT"
Speeches by military historians from Finland and Russia, among them author of the book Blockade of Leningrad and Finland. 1941-1944. Vladimir Baryshnikov, statesmen and politicians, including former president of Finland Mauno Koivisto and representative of Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexei Sazonov, are planned in the bilateral seminar.
The history of World War II and the significance of the Victory for Russia and Finland, the fates of Soviet and Finnish prisoners of war, and the war as Soviet and Finnish soldiers saw it will be the principal themes of the speeches.
As staffers of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture said, it is expected that about 50 people will take part in the seminar.
The opening of RIA Novosti's photo exhibition The People Who Triumphed over the War and of the documentary-historical exhibition from the Archives of Russia's Foreign Policy devoted to the 60th anniversary of the end of the second world war is timed to the opening of the seminar.
