RIA NOVOSTI'S PHOTO EXHIBITION OVER IN USA
The Brotherhood in Arms photo exhibition opened on V-E Day and was held in the main rotunda of the Russell Senate Office Building. The Senators working there, the Senate staffers, and the members of the delegations and the participants in the excursions which go through the rotunda every day had a chance to see the photo exhibition.
It is reminder of what awful enemy we together had to encounter, and how important it was that we confronted him together, including, of course, the Britons and the others, because these were not only our two countries, vice-chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee, Democrat Carl Levin told RIA Novosti.
Nonetheless, we (the USA) and the Soviet Union were the largest armed forces, and the fact that we worked together in order to get rid of this woe was a present to all mankind, the Senator noted.
As many as 80 photographs of the war years, telling about the historic meeting of Soviet and US soldiers on the Elbe, and about the two countries' allied relations during the second world war, were on display at the exhibition.
The photographs made by the Soviet and American frontline photographers show the liberation of Prague and Vienna, the freeing of the inmates of the German concentration camps, the meeting of the allies' leaders in Yalta, and the Nuremberg trials.
