MOSCOW REGION TO SUE UES FOR BLACKOUT DAMAGES
As he assumed, the power crisis that paralyzed Moscow and a vast area round it, May 25, was due to company mismanagement.
"The Moscow Region received 2.5 megawatts of redundant energy from the UES controls last Wednesday-which showed resources distributed the wrong way. This sphere ought to come under government management," he said.
Damage done exceeded 240 million rubles in the housing economy of nine settlements alone, added the vice-governor. (R28.06/$1 is the Central Bank rate for today.)
The blackout hit 42 settlements with a total population of four million. Certain dire results have not been made good till this day. It may take another two days to cope with them completely.
Industry and agriculture were stricken the worst. Thus, close on a million chicken died in the Petelino poultry farm. The meat is being salvaged under close supervision, so consumers have no reason for alarm.
The Moscow Region will be able to cater for the city food market, but it may take as long as forty days to fully make good the losses.
The vice-governor also acknowledged sewage polluting the Moskva River. It will take roughly a week to clean the water, he said.
