Terrorism poses main threat to international security - Russian, Italian parliamentarians
Chairman of the international affairs commission of the Italian parliament Gustavo Selva and chairman of the State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) commission for constitutional legislation and state development Vladimir Pligin said this after a session of the Big Russian-Italian inter-parliamentary commission.
According to Russian and Italian parliamentarians, legislative measures against terrorism were widely discussed at the session today.
Selva said, "International terrorist organizations pose the main threat today and we need a system of universal security measures, including the increase of the UN military contingent."
The role of the United Nations, the leading international organization, was also discussed at the session.
"We would like to thank the Soviet Union and Russia for the role in the formation and activities of this organization," Selva said.
The parliamentarians also discussed development of constitutional legislation, taxation and pensions.
Pligin said that Russian and Italian parliamentarians "had a sincere discussion on important issues and such meetings could become annual."
