VLADIVOSTOK, July 5 (RIA Novosti, Anatoly Ilyukhov) - Russian and American navy units were Tuesday holding combined exercises in Peter the Great Bay near the Far East city of Vladivostok.

The exercise, set to finish later today, is the final leg in a visit of a group of U.S. Navy ships to Vladivostok. It was hampered in the morning by rain and fog.

U.S. ships taking part are the destroyer Curtis Wilber, and minesweepers Patriot and Guardian. Russia is represented by the Admiral Vinogradov guided missile frigate and two minesweepers.

The U.S. vessels arrived in Vladivostok, the Pacific Fleet's main base, on July 1. U.S. sailors took part in celebrations of the city's 145th anniversary, which coincided with U.S. Independence Day.

A delegation of U.S. military officials paid visits to Russia's Pacific Fleet commanders and the city administration and laid a wreath at the city's Eternal Flame.

American sailors also took part in sporting events with local navy cadets and were given a tour of Vladivostok.
