Russian parliament member urges U.S. government to ban terrorists' access to the media

MOSCOW, July 29 (RIA Novosti) - A member of the Russian Parliament asked the U.S. Congress to analyze the work of the American media so that in the future international terrorists would be banned from accessing the media.

The statement was made by Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the State Duma (the parliament's lower chamber) committee on international affairs, in relation to the recent interview with Chechen terrorist Shamil Basayev that was broadcasted by U.S. TV channel ABC.

"After a series of inhumane terrorist acts, Basayev's speech looks particularly blasphemous and unacceptable from the vantage point of human moral values, as well as from the point of principles that the U.S. government declares within the framework of the fight against terrorism," Kosachev said.

He also said this issue would be raised in November at a joint session of the international committees of the Russian State Duma and U.S. House of Representatives.

The parliamentarian warned against illusions that terrorists can be "bad" or "good" and that there could be situations when "the end justifies the means."

Kosachev said that in this context all statements concerning freedom of speech and the right of citizens to freely access information play into terrorists' hands and help them carry out their bloody plans.
