AKTAU (Kazakhstan), August 19 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) helped Uzbekistan investigate the Andijan uprising, FSB chief Nikolai Patrushev said Friday. "The FSB provided timely information and sent experts to Uzbekistan to work directly in the republic," he said. "Russian intelligence services shared their experience investigating terrorist attacks with their Uzbek colleagues," Patrushev said.

On May 13, 2005, militants seized a prison and several government buildings in Andijan, Uzbekistan's fourth largest city. Law enforcement bodies used force to quell the uprising, leaving 176 people dead, according to official figures.
