ROME, September 7 (RIA Novosti, Sergei Startsev) - Russia's first president, Boris Yeltsin, refused medical treatment in Italy after he broke a bone in his thigh in an accident Wednesday morning.
Yeltsin was on vacation in Sardinia, Italy.
Contrary to some Italian media reports, Yeltsin was not put in an orthopedics ward at a hospital in the resort town of Olbia.
A source in the hospital said an ambulance had brought Yeltsin to the hospital this morning and an orthopedist examined him to establish that the former president had fractured a bone in his thigh.
However, Yeltsin refused to remain in the hospital and left immediately after the examination.
A source at Costa Smeralda airport said Yeltsin's plane would take off for the Russian capital at about 5.00 p.m. Moscow time (1.00 p.m. GMT).
