MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - Bird flu was confirmed Wednesday in 47 Russian settlements, the Agriculture Ministry reported.

According to data the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight cited in the ministry press release, another 80 settlements are suspected of having bird flu. The quarantine has been lifted from 9 earlier registered populated areas and four lakes in the Omsk region.

The service said the bad epizootic situation in the Altai territory, the Tyumen, Kurgan, Chelyabinsk and Novosibirsk regions has not changed in the last two days.

There are plans to lift the quarantine from six settlements in the Kurgan region within a week.
