MOSCOW, October 21 (RIA Novosti) - Russia may invest in the construction of a petrochemical plant in Portugal, the Portuguese minister for economy and innovation said Friday.

"We discussed a petrochemical project in Portugal that could be implemented due to Russian investments," Manuel Pinho said after a session of the Russian-Portuguese intergovernmental commission for economic, industrial and technical cooperation.

He also said Portugal, which was stricken by a number of forest fires this year, intended to buy Russian firefighting aircraft.

Russian government chief of staff Sergei Naryshkin said Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov was scheduled to visit Portugal on November 9-10.

"Agreements on cooperation in tourism and information exchange in taxation will be signed during the visit," he said.

He also said the sides agreed to develop cooperation in the space and energy industries.
