MOSCOW, November 30 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's Federal Customs Service brought 270 administrative cases against those trafficking pirated goods from January-September of 2005, a senior customs officer said Wednesday.
"Out of this amount, 75 were copyright violation cases and 195 were opened for illegally using registered trademarks," Chief Customs Inspector Dmitry Filippov said.
Filippov said the most frequent copyright violations concerned the smuggling of counterfeit audio and video products, particularly CDs and DVDs.
"Illegal use of registered trademarks often refers to the smuggling of counterfeit footwear, sports garments and liquors," Filippov said.
In 2004, customs authorities brought 154 administrative cases against those smuggling counterfeit goods into Russia. Copyright violations accounted for 48 of the cases. The remaining 106 were opened for the illegal use of registered trademarks.
