MOSCOW, December 1 (RIA Novosti)-Russia will defend its interests in the Commonwealth of Independent States and monitor NATO's presence there, the chief of the Russian General Staff said Thursday.
General Yury Baluyevsky said: "We are following NATO attempts to involve CIS states in the bloc's activity and weaken relations with Russia."
The general said that Russia would defend its interests, even if this did not mean using force.
