Cargo plane makes emergency landing in Siberia
KRASNOYARSK, February 7 (RIA Novosti, Boris Ivanov) - A Russian cargo plane made an emergency landing in the eastern Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk in the early hours of Tuesday, a local Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman said.
According to the spokesman, the pilot of the IL-76 plane, which is owned by local carrier Krasair Airlines, asked for permission to make an emergency landing shortly after taking off from Krasnoyarsk airport due to a hydraulic failure.
The plane, carrying a load of about 42 metric tons (about 90,000 pounds), was set to make regular flight from Krasnoyarsk, which is about 2,500 miles east of Moscow, to the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on the Pacific Ocean island of Sakhalin.
A commission has been set up to investigate the incident, the spokesman said.
