Ukraine hands over border demarcation documents to Russia
21:55 15/02/2006
KIEV, February 15 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine has handed over to Russia a package of documents on the demarcation of the Russian-Ukrainian border, a Ukrainian official said Wednesday.
Following an expert session on the long-disputed border running through the Azov and Black Seas and the Kerch Strait, Leonid Osavolyuk, Ukrainian charge d'affaires in Russia, said the sides had agreed on the urgent need to demarcate the Ukrainian-Russian border.
Osavolyuk added that Russia had not yet officially confirmed who would represent the country at the demarcation committee.
The confrontation over the Tuzla Island in the Kerch Strait erupted in summer 2003 when Russia's attempt to construct a dam there provoked a bitter dispute with its neighbor, which accused Russia of encroaching on its territory.
