MOSCOW, April 7 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed the release Friday of a Russian scientist accused of spying in Sweden but said the release took too long.

All the charges against Andrei Zamyatnin, 30, were dropped Friday and the scientist released from custody. He had been detained on suspicion of spying for an unnamed country on February 15.

"We were pleased to hear about the Swedish prosecutors' decision to release Russian citizen Zamyatnin," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry, however, expressed regret that it had taken Sweden's authorities almost two months to clear the Russian researcher of all the charges.
