More than 1,500 rescue workers and 260 units of equipment have been summoned to Russia's Far Eastern towns hit by a powerful earthquake last week, emergency services said Wednesday.
President Vladimir Putin and Chancellor Angela Merkel will meet about 2,250 miles east of Moscow in the Siberian city of Tomsk as part of annual Russian-German intergovernmental consultations that have been held since 1998.
The unmanned Progress M-56 cargo ship will deliver 2.6 metric tons of equipment, fuel, oxygen, water, food, and also Easter gifts to the 13th crew of the International Space Station, the official said.
"The exercises will be conducted within the Volga-Urals military district," Sergei Ivanov told a meeting in Beijing of his counterparts from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
