MOSCOW, April 27 (RIA Novosti) - Local-hire employees at the consulate department of the French Embassy in Moscow are holding a one-day strike, a source at the embassy said Thursday.
"A decision was made that employees hired under local-hire contracts will conduct a one-day strike on April 27," the official said, adding that both Russian and French employees are involved.
The strike has been called following labor union demands to improve employees' working conditions.
The source said that the consulate was not closed, and that remaining employees would do everything possible to continue issuing visas.
Major appointments at the Embassy are filled from Paris, but the Embassy hires many of its administrative staff locally and under contracts and conditions subject to Russian labor law.
