NOVOSIBIRSK, May 3 (RIA Novosti) - Lawyers for jailed Russian tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky confirmed Wednesday that he had been admitted to a prison hospital, but refused to go into detail as to why.
"He was hospitalized several days ago on a medical prescription," Natalia Terekhova said. "But I will not comment on the matter. I'm just confirming the fact of his hospitalization."
Two weeks ago, the former chief of embattled oil company Yukos, who is serving an eight-year sentence for fraud and tax evasion in a colony in southeastern Siberia, was transferred to a solitary cell after a fellow inmate wounded him with a knife, she said.
Federal penitentiary authorities said earlier that the isolation had been prompted by concerns for Khodorkovsky's security.
