MOSCOW, May 10 (RIA Novosti) - A search is under way for 14 climbers from Russia and Ukraine near Europe's highest peak, emergency services said Wednesday.
"It is established that 10 climbers arrived from Moscow, and four from Ukraine," the spokesman said, adding that a total of 24 rescuers were involved in the operation at an altitude of 4,300 meters (14,000 feet) near Mount Elbrus.
The operation was launched after contact was lost with the group late Tuesday, though the spokesman said all the climbers believed to be alive.
"Rescuers found a climber Wednesday morning who said that all his companions were alive but had become split up at different sections along the planned route," he said.
