CHERKESSK, May 17 (RIA Novosti) - The acting head of a prison in the southern Russian region of Karachayevo-Cherkessia was gunned down outside his home Wednesday, a local Interior Ministry source said.
Hasan Janayev died in a hail of automatic fire as he left for work at 8:00 a.m. (4:00 a.m. GMT), the source said.
"Janayev died on the spot from his injuries," the source said.
Janayev was appointed acting head of the prison in Cherkessk, the capital of the North Caucasus republic, in February.
