ROSTOV-ON-DON, May 18 (RIA Novosti) - Two search operations are continuing for missing climbers in mountains in southern Russia, an emergency situations service said Thursday.

Rescuers are combing the southeastern and eastern slopes of Mount Elbrus, Europe's highest peak, in search of two climbers who remain missing after two groups of 12 climbers from Russia and Ukraine were trapped in bad weather on May 9. One climber managed to return to base to raise the alarm, but efforts to locate the men have so far only resulted in the recovery of nine bodies.

Fourteen rescuers are also searching for five tourists from the central Russian city of Yaroslavl missing in mountains in the Republic of Adygea, whose capital is about 1,000 miles south of Moscow. The group left on a hiking expedition May 1 but never reported back.
